Budget Backpackers

Having met my partner in Malaysia during a volunteer expedition in 2018, we both returned to the UK with a desire to keep travelling. We’ve since been fortunate to experience three years of full-time travel.

Budget Backpackers was born in 2021 with an intention to make long-term travel more accessible. Alongside transparency into all our expenses, we specialise in destination breakdowns, country itineraries, and digital nomad guides.

S2 E6. Mariam - Volunteering with Afghans a massive wake up call

Mariam talks movingly and very honestly about her identity as a young woman from a displaced family and the journey that her volunteering set her on. As a Dari speaker, Mariam spent a lot of time serving Afghans at the Centre. This forced her to confront her own privilege and the pain of people who she shares a culture and history with.
